| Chalford is a maze of narrow winding donkey tracks between cottages of Cotswold stone. Many of them were once weavers' cottages in the days when the Stroud valleys were still famous for their cloth. 'Stroud Red' was the fabric used for the military uniforms of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that you see in historical dramas like 'Sharpe'. | ||
