Join us for a Dirty Weekend with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Friday, 21st March – Sunday 23rd March

Work with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust for two days on conservation work in the heart of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Cost: £160 per person (includes board and lodging)
To book call 01452 383333 or email

The weekend begins when you arrive at Westley Farm, a gorgeous Cotswold Farm with over 75 acres of wildflower meadow and ancient woodland. Your accommodation will be on a self catering basis in one of the shared* holiday cottages that are dotted around the farm, each with log fire and beautiful rural views.

You are invited to join Julian and Hege, your hosts at Westley Farm, in the farmhouse kitchen for a hearty welcome meal on Friday evening with your companions for the weekend and Trust staff.

On Saturday morning you will meet Reserve Manager Pete Bradshaw, who will lead the group to the first conservation site on the farm where you will help with the removal of scrub, by cutting back and burning brambles on a big bonfire. This is important conservation work, creating and managing limestone grassland habitat for the marsh fritillary butterfly, known to breed on only two sites in Gloucestershire. Pete will share his extensive local knowledge with you over the day or the one hour lunch break. Work finishes at about 4.30pm with a pre-prepared shared evening meal at 6pm. The local pub is just a 20 minute walk across the fields.

On Sunday, you will be taken by minibus to the Trust’s Strawberry Banks nature reserve nearby, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and thus nationally important as a wildlife habitat. The nature reserve is home to the marsh fritillary butterflies, many species of wild flower and the rare rugged oil beetle. You will help remove blackthorn and hawthorn that are encroaching onto the grassland.

The weekend ends at 3pm on Sunday, when we drop you back at Westley Farm.

After two days of country air and exercise, you leave with the knowledge that you have helped to protect one of the most beautiful corners of the Cotswolds.
