| THE ENGLISH TOURISM
COUNCIL sets quality standards for
self-catering accommodation in England. Grading goes from one star
to five. The criteria used in the annual inspection are wide-ranging and
include material comforts such as cleanliness, decoration, space &
comfort, heating & ventilation, lighting. In addition they check
safety, insurance, car parking, environment, tourist information and
welcome. Some standards are mandatory, some discretionary. For example: If you can only get into a double bed from one side only, you cannot rise above two star; or if you accommodate more than 6 guests you cannot go above three star unless you provide more than one toilet. They like it if curtains match bed covers. (ours don't and never will). All our cottages are graded three star. What you can expect are comfortable and clean cottages without
frills or luxury. We provide microwaves but no dishwashers. |
