THE WILD FLOWERS

OF WESTLEY FARM

It is hard to believe that cowslips are an endangered plant when you see them growing by the million at Westley Farm. The above is a false oxlip, a freak cross between the cowslip and primrose.
Even on the farm red cowslips are as rare as hen's teeth (well almost)
In the year 2000 we counted 41 Bee orchids in the sheep bank above the farmhouse. Other occasional finds include: Bird's nest orchid, Twayblade, Red and White Helleborine as well as the field smothering Common Spotted, Early Purple etc.

Yellow is the predominant colour of the bank above Cockshutt. The Cowslips of April are replaced by the Buttercups of high summer. Wild Mallow in the foreground. Jackdaw cottage in the background. A carpet of Dog Daisies with Hornstone  in the background

Wild Welsh Poppies love to grow at the bottom of cotswold walls. You will find them in the yards of Cockshutt and Jackdaw.
