Chalford has been described as the Alpine Village of the Cotswolds. Many of the houses have only access tracks, too narrow for cars. Deliveries were a regular feature in the village up to the1950's. Coal was carried from the barges on the canal up to the Chalford Hill depot. The donkeys knew the way so well that they needed no-one to lead them. After eight years in Madrid, my daughter Anna (33) came home and decided to revive the old tradition. She bought two donkeys, Teddy and Chester which she keeps on the farm.
Delivery day is Saturday.
