“Less cabin, more rural cathedral” – The Times, May 2024
Arcadia – where myth thrives, nature takes hold and you can rest in harmony with your surroundings
Hewn from the trees in our ancient woodland, Arcadia is a sumptuous vision of honey coloured tones, stained glass windows and warm wood in an idyllic, bucolic setting.
A completely unique structure, the lodge is a single, cathedral-like living space, with stained glass windows salvaged from Morocco framed by an arched roof. At the far end of the room is a king size bed, with the shower room and toilet beyond. A day bed, leather sofa, cowhide rug and deliciously soft sheepskins ensure that you will bask in luxury during your stay.
The wood-burning stove doubles as a hot plate and oven, and there is also an induction hob in the kitchen area, alongside a copper sink and antique butcher’s block to help you rustle up something special.
No expense is spared in Arcadia: the cutlery is silver, the cabin boasts its own specially commissioned tableware made for us by acclaimed ceramicist Barbara Gorton, while there is a cute table and chairs from an Alpine chalet – perfect for dinner for two.
Outside, Adirondack chairs are arranged around a fire bowl, the ideal spot for sitting out at night gazing at the stars and listening to the resident owl. For the ultimate relaxation, there is a wood-fired hot tub, and for outdoor eating a barbecue and quirky table and chairs fashioned from an antique Johnny Walker whisky barrel.
Arcadia is entirely off-grid, powered by our state of the art solar system: it has a composting toilet, LED lighting, USB sockets and has been made by ourselves with the help of local craftspeople almost entirely from reclaimed or recycled materials – all serving to keep our impact on nature as light as possible.
Please note that the path to Arcadia is 100m from the nearest parking and runs through a field. It is steep in places and can be muddy.
