Gold Rush Cabin Gallery
After years living in the American West, we decided to recreate a little piece of Americana in the heart of the Cotswolds. And why not? We’re in the west too.
So we came up with Gold Rush, a log cabin with a twist, inspired by the stories of the crazyhearts and dreamers who sped west in search of gold in them there hills. Some of them even found it, like Charlie Chaplin’s hero in Gold Rush, though not before enduring a harsh winter in his own log cabin, surviving on a diet of boiled boots.
Our own Gold Rush Cabin is a lot more welcoming, with an antique wood-burning stove to keep you snug, throws and rugs bearing patterns inspired by the myths of the west, a giant sheepskin rug (made from four sheep, not a single giant sheep!), the comfiest bed this side of the Rockies, Egyptian cotton linen, a pair of cow hide chairs and some oddments picked up on our travels way out west: wooden grenade boxes for when you get tired of digging for gold, a fearsomely-toothed Californian saw blade for cutting down those giant redwood trees.
The 16-foot diameter octagonal cabin is clad inside and out in rough-hewn timber, echoing the cabins you still see today in the American West. Inside it’s warm and cosy and rustic, while outside there is a large deck, a camp kitchen with a cast iron gas burner, the Dead Man’s Tub and the Other Fella’s Tub, a barbecue, hammock, fire pit, cold box and the cowboy shower, with tin walls, hot water and a watering can shower head.
To ease your arrival you’ll find a chilled bottle of bubbly, Clipper tea, Fair Trade coffee and local organic milk from the Woefuldane dairy.
